ElektroG

These German law regulates the bringing into circulation, recovery and environmentally friendly waste management of electrical and electronic equipment.

Impetus to this law was the European Commission Directive 2002/9/EG (or WEEE Directive) which enjoins the EU member countries to transport the regulation into national law and, at the same time, develop a national collection system. On March 16, 2005, Germany transported this directive into the German ElektroG (electrical equipment law).

Primarily, the law stipulated the requirements on product responsibility for electrical and electronic appliances. The goal is the avoidance of waste, re-use and substantial recycling of such waste materials and reduction of harmful substances in electrical and electronic appliances.
