WEEE Directive



The WEEE directive (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) is the EU directive 2002/96/EG concerning the reduction of increasing amounts of electronic scrap by extended producer responsibility for the products.

Announced goal:
"Purpose of this directive is the avoidance of waste production of electrical and electronic equipment and beyond that the re-use, the recycling and other forms of waste management of such refuse in order to reduce the waste quantity to be removed. Moreover, it is to improve the environmental performance of all individuals involved in the life cycle of electrical and electronic equipment such as, for example, the producers, the sellers and the final users and especially those immediately involved in the treatment of electrical and electronic used appliances."

In the year 2005, the regulation was transported into national law (ElektroG) in Germany.
